Media Production Labs: Introduction

The Glucksman Library Media Production Labs are located on the first floor of the library in The Edge, the hub of digital scholarship - where people are invited to experiment, innovate, collaborate and create, using a suite of emerging technologies.

These bookable, self-service spaces include two Audio Labs (one PC, one Mac) for recording audio presentations or podcasts, and a Greenscreen lab, to record video or experiement with wireless VR headsets (available to borrow from the Makerspace).  These spaces are open to all UL students, faculty, and staff, to use for academic and personal projects.

An extensive list of loanable equipment such as cameras, tripods, VR headsets, and much more are available to borrow at no charge, to use within the media labs, or to take home.

Staff in the Makerspace (GL1-035) are available to assist with any technical queries, during makerspace opening hours

Use of these rooms by individuals or groups is by reservation, and for media production purposes only

Please note that these spaces are not fully soundproofed, professional recording studios.

Mandatory Induction Sessions

First time users of the Media Production Labs - both Greenscreen & AV Labs, must complete a mandatory induction prior to first-time use. The induction will go through what is in the spaces, how to use the technologies, the intended purpose of the labs.  On completion of the induction, your ID will be added to the Swipe Access system.

Sessions are held every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 9:30am for 30mins, in the library makerspace (GL1-035), and are bookable here.  If you need to attend an induction but cannot make these sessions, please contact the makerpsace team librarymakerspace@ul.ie to arrange an alternative time.
