Research Profiles: ULRIS

ULRIS (UL Research Information System)

It is important to add all your publications to ULRIS, UL’s Research Information System. ULRIS will automatically download your new publications from Web of Science and allow your academic profile to automatically feed your department’s website. More information on ULRIS can be found at  https://ulcampus.sharepoint.com/sites/ResearcherPortal/SitePages/UL-Research-Information-System.aspx

Creating and Managing your ORCID

You can get yourself set up with ORCID in three easy steps

  1. Get an ORCID number
    1. Registering for your ORCID iD only takes 30 seconds at orcid.org
  2. Add your works. ORCID is one the easiest profiles to keep up to date.
    1. Once you've created your ORCID iD, it's easy to add your scholarly works to your ORCID record and enable automatic updates
    2. You can link your works from another system such as Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, Crossref and many more
    3. ORCID can be linked to your ULRIS profile allowing ULRIS to be automatically populated from ORCID when you make changes.
  3. Use your ORCID Number
    1. Include your ORCID identifier on your webpage,
    2. When you submit publications
    3. When you apply for grants
    4. In any research workflow to ensure you get credit for your work.

The video tutorial below goes through the step by step process of creating and managing your ORCID

Import publications from Scopus

  1. On the 'Works' tab in ORCID, hover over 'Add works' and click on 'Search & Link'...
  2. Scroll down the list to click on 'Scopus - Elsevier'. You will need to authorise ORCID to access your publication record on Scopus.
  3. You will then be offered to review your Scopus record, correct it if necessary and then select the full publication record for import into ORCID.

Import publications from Web of Science (Researcher ID, now Publons)

1. Repeat step 1 from above.
2. Scroll down the list to click on 'Researcher ID'. You will need to sign in to Publons (or create a Publons account if you don't already have one).
3. On the ‘Permissions Settings’ page, click "Link your ORCID" and follow the steps to link your ORCID account to Publons.
4. Once ORCID profile is linked, navigate back to permissions settings page and select ‘Grant Publons permission to update 5. Click on "Export Publications to ORCID now".

Import your publications from Pubmed Central

1. Repeat step 1 from above.
2. Scroll down the list to click on 'Europe Pubmed Central'.
3. You will need to authorize Europe Pubmed Central to access and update your ORCID account.
4. Pubmed will list all candidate publications for name, please choose all your publications from the list and click on 'Continue'.
5. Review the list and click on 'Send to ORCID'.

Import your publications using a BibTeX file from Google Scholar/ ULRIS etc

1. From within your Google Scholar profile page select all publications for import into ORCID by selecting the box beside each publication and clicking 'Export' -> 'BibTeX'.

2. Your publication metadata will appear in the browser window. Right click and choose 'Save as', give your new file a name and location (default location is 'downloads').
3. From within your ORCID profile 'Works' section hover over 'Add works' and click 'Import BibTeX'. Locate your exported file from Scholar (default location is 'downloads') and select.
4. Choose to 'Save' or 'Ignore' each listed publication, or choose to 'Save All'.

Step by step instructions on how to link your ORCID account to ULRIS are outlined in the video and slides below.

As ORCID is the easier profile to keep up to date we recommend that you regularly update ORCID and use that to update ULRIS.

If you wish to populate your ORCID from your ULRIS account you can do this by download a BibTeX file from ULRIS and uploading that to ORCID.
