Springer Open Access Publishing deal

This agreement as part of the IReL consortium, covers the period of the 1 Apr 2021 – 31 Dec 2024. It  will allow accepted articles In more than 2,000 Springer Hybrid Journals from current UL staff or students to be made open access immediately upon publication.

 

NOTE: This agreement has a limited OA quota per year. We expect it to be used up by the end of the year. Any updates will be posted on this page.

This agreement gives authors from IReL affiliated Institutions a fixed allowance of articles that can be made Open Access. We estimate that approximately 80% of articles will be covered by this.

In addition, you can enjoy full access to all Springer subscription journal content.

 

Journals Covered

The agreement covers over 2000 Springer Hybrid journals. A full list of these is available in the spreadsheet below.

It excludes Open Access Journals and Journals undergoing a transformative process to full Open Access. The Nature Journals are all going through the transformative process therefore they are excluded from this agreement. 

BioMed Central (BMC) journals are fully Open Access and are excluded from this deal. 

Article types covered

Which article types are covered by this agreement?

  • Original Paper: Standard article, usually presenting new results; articles published under this article type may also be referred to as Original Research, Original Article, Original Paper or Research Paper.
  • Review Paper: Standard article, interpreting previously published results.
  • Brief Communication: Short article submitted for rapid publication that exhibits the same structure as a standard article.
  • Continuing Education: Article forming integral part of further education (usually medical)

Author Information

If you are the corresponding author you can follow the steps below

  1. Submit your research to your journal of choice. The full list of journals included in the agreement is available in the box to the left. 
  2. Identify yourself as an eligible author. There are three ways we can recognise your eligibility for open access publication through this agreement. When your article is accepted, be sure to identify yourself in at least one of the following ways on the MyPublication form
    1. Select your institution from the dropdown list
    2. Use your Institution email address 
    3. Complete the form while within the UL network
  3. UL approval: If you are eligible, your institution will complete the approval process without causing any delays to the manuscript publication process.
  4. Promote and share your research. When your article is open access, anyone can read and share it! So whether you want to share your article on a website, a scholarly collaboration network, by email, on social media, in teaching, or anywhere else, you’re free to do so. 

 

Author affiliations

Corresponding authors must be a current staff member or student of UL.  

In the article submission process you must correctly identify your institution.

You should use your UL email address when submitting your article. 

If your manuscript is accepted for publication, the publisher will give you the opportunity to make your article Open Access and apply a Creative Commons license. The publisher will then contact the participating institution to confirm your eligibility under the agreement.
